India - Visakhapatnam

Overview

Visakha Container Terminal (VCTPL) is a deep-water gateway terminal on the Bay of Bengal coast of India, between Chennai and Kolkata. Vizag port is already the largest port in India in terms of tonnage handled through its bulk liquids and break bulk facilities. The port therefore provides excellent established marine access and an existing proven network of hinterland connections. The container terminal has superb rail and road connections to the hinterland, with the unique advantage of being the only terminal on the east coast with an on-dock rail facility.

The terminal opened in June 2003 and has attracted strong interest and support from many shipping lines and feeder operators. VCTPL is an ideal hub port for Bangladesh and Kolkata/Haldia cargo and presents a cost-effective solution to many Indian importers and traders as it is able to offer superior transit times to and from the burgeoning Far East markets.
