Australia - Melbourne

Overview

Melbourne's port operations are located at the north of Port Phillip Bay. The Port of Melbourne is the largest commercial port in Australia, a modern growth port that is presently undergoing some significant improvements. A channel deepening operation currently underway will give access to vessels with drafts up to 14m.

DP World Melbourne is located in the West Swanson area of the Port of Melbourne, equipped with the latest terminal control system and boasts easy access to road and rail. DP World Melbourne offers a full range of electronic business support to clients, including electronic customs import release of cargo, electronic data interchange (EDI) reporting and web browser based information services.

A large part of the expansion commitment is the development of a former "tank farm", adjacent to the existing terminal facility, which will provide additional ground space. By 2011 the terminal will take over the adjoining intermodal site. This site has an existing rail siding which will be incorporated into the terminal facility to improve rail access directly into and out of the terminal. The rail line links Melbourne's outer regions as well as Adelaide and Perth, which further improves opportunities for shippers to move their cargo through one of Australia's most significant commercial hubs.
